Esteem Jiujitsu is regarded as one of the leading competition teams in the area. We've been impressing since our first run at the tournament circuit way back in 2011. Coach Michael has always heavily encouraged doing tournaments. I've heard him explain to many tentative students how they should at least do it once, "because if you've never been in a fight, then there's a certain part of you that exists that you've never met." He says. He goes on to describe it as the best way to experience a real fight, minus the risk of being knocked out with punches. He would say; "if you don't think a jiujitsu match is like a fight, then you've never fought me. If we got into a real fight right now, I wouldn't swing at you. I'd clench with you, get a takedown, take your back and strangle you. You know what I'd do if we had a jiujitsu match right now? The. Exact. Same. Thing." Coach Michael has competition sparring every day at 530p, rotating between gi and no gi.
